Information and factors to consider for a web design estimate, quote or proposal
If you are looking for a website design quote, there are many factors to consider. There are 10, 000s of UK web design companies and finding the correct one for your requirements is critical. Companies range from one-man-bands through to large web design agencies with 100s of employees.
Does the company utilise up to date technologies? Are their websites fully compliant with modern standard and accessibility laws (e.g. disability discrimination act)?
Content Management System
Does the company provide a quality website CMS? Is it easy to use? Is it an open-source CMS such as WordPress, Drupal, DotNetNuke or Joomal? Or is it commercial / bespoke and you are tied into a licensing agreement?
Having a website on the web that nobody can find won’t bring many benefits. Ensure the company has search engine optimisation skills – both to develop your website in an SEO friendly way, but also to build links and perform online marketing.
Website design and development costs range hugely. Tailored quotes usually give you the best return on investment (ROI) – fixed price deals may give you a cheap website to begin with, but often work out more expensive. If you require on-going support or maintenance ask how this will work.
Location and Contact
Is the company located in the UK? Can you easily contact them or have a meeting – be wary of companies that only have a mobile number or don’t show their contact details. Even with advances in technology, occasional face-to-face meetings are useful to discuss your requirements – if say you live in Suffolk, ideally the web design company would be based in Suffolk too, or if not within a reasonable distance.
